86!

It's Thursday, which means I am working and having the bi-weekly calls that I don't really like. Anyway, I'll be leaving in about 25 minutes to pick Cathy up from the airport. I'm guessing she will like the 72 degree weather were going to have today...even though yesterday it was 86...86!!!!! Wow. Can I move to Chicago but take the weather? Now that would be something.

That's Classic Man!

I totally miss the classic shows...I can't stop singing the theme songs..and wishing they still had good shows like this (ok..the first one...)



I used to love this one too...watched it on Saturday morning. The show was fantastic..even though the intro (and I am sure the whole show) looks really ridiculous now - was it always that fake?? I am disappointed that they are making a movie and it'll have Will Farrell in it - I think there are some things they just should leave alone. Anyway..enjoy..

Dodgy

For anyone not on Facebook who has missed out on the bangs/no bangs advice giving, yesterday I went and got my hair cut. I got bangs. Anyway..that is not the point here. The point of this post is that I was parking my car, I noticed the car in front of me and had to whip out my camera.

I thought..now there's a word I don't use enough...Dodgy. That..and cheeky... Nothing about this car was dodgy but maybe a little cheeky. I really just thought my mom would find this mildly amusing.

Nothing about my haircut was dodgy really either..but like the car...Paul may have been a little cheeky.

Guess what time it is...hint..its Friday...

I am so excited about Random Friday..because..yes..it's actually happening on a FRIDAY.

Ok..so a few random things.

If you missed my post yesterday, I am SO almost out of Vegemite. If you don't know what it is, then you most certainly would not like it, so don't rush out and get any - unless you're planning to send it to me. I (heart) Vegemite!

Secondly, the Green Machine has been making noises lately. I'm sure it has to do with it being 9 years old and having 116,000 miles on it..and probably being incredibly rusty underneath (I'm talking about my car in case you're confused). All of this is making me want one of these...

Yep..that's the Dodge Challenger. Totally impractical for driving in snow or transporting a child (not that we have one in the oven..don't get excited) but so, SO cool. I would LOVE to have one. The responsible side of me would never get one...I'll just get TGM fixed..afterall..it IS a Honda and has been a gem of a vehicle. (Besides..I haven't had a car payment in years..and that is really nice...but the Challenger is actually quite well priced..but I don't need one...)

Again..random..but I feel like I am suffering from Post Song Lyric Contest Syndrome - otherwise known as PSLCS. Kate had a contest over at her blog and we had to identify song lyrics for a week (well..I guess you could have figured that one out). I was one of three winners which really made me feel good and also wondering what I could have been doing with the part of my brain currently being taken up by song lyrics. I think she should do another one..maybe with lines from movies?? Ugh..more wasted brain..less..but more..

I love making up ACRONYMS...(and Vegemite...)

And my final comment here on Random Friday...why does my husband do this? Do all of them do this?

Did he think I might want a 1/4 of a glass of orange kool-aid during the day? or maybe I'd like to have a full glass but would want it really, really watered down? I don't get it.

It's Official...

..I am becoming my mother.

I've noticed that this has been happening for some time. When Paul and I were visiting my family at Christmas, there were several times when I looked at him and said how something my mom had done..that I do it too...and I won't do it anymore :) Mostly it was about arguments she and my dad have or different interactions (that aren't arguments). I must state here that Paul, at times, behaves EXACTLY like my dad..which is why they get along so well..but this isn't about them..its about me.

While working this afternoon, I thought I'd have a cup of tea. While it was brewing..I got a craving for a cookie..you know, to go with the tea. I started looking through my cabinet and I found some.

Yes..that's right...best by April 27, 2006. I brought these with me when I moved from Illinois.

I opened them, they've never been opened..and ate 2. They were fine...nothing wrong with them...so I put them back for next time. I'll be sure to offer some to Cathy when she's here. She loves foods that are 3 years expired!

Random Friday...appearing on Tuesday

I don't know how she does this..and what I REALLY don't know is how is that comfortable???


I've been knitting. I started a new pair of socks..haven't really knitted any since before Christmas..and I had this Harry Potter sock yarn...and time on my hands..so I thought I'd start something new.

I also started working on a new cardigan. I thought if I could get it done then I could take it on vacation when we go in April. So far I love the color..and it's really soft.

Happy Birthday Paul

Today is Paul's birthday...he claims he was born around 9 in the evening..so this post is quite timely actually.

We spent most of the day not doing a whole lot. Paul spent some time doing whatever he does on the computer (hopefully not looking at porn..but it WAS his birthday..haha) and sitting with Izzie.


We were both off work, so that allowed us to go to Costco during the middle of the day, as well as go to the movies. We went to see Taken which was a really good movie.

We then went to this Brazilian barbecue place - we were there at 5 - mostly because of the timing of the movie and the fact that traffic is horrible at 5 and so we decided to go to a movie near where we were going to have dinner - but seriously, I felt a little like we were going at senior citizen time. We decided to sit at the bar and have a drink..

We did finally sit at a table and Paul began working towards his meat coma.


I don't know if you've been to one of these places..but they have a token salad bar but the main thing there is meat. They walk around and basically offer you various kinds of meat...kinda like this...


I think he had a good day all filled with his favorite things.

Nothing to Say

I haven't had much to say lately...I don't know if it's been because I've been busy working..or because I've been working out 4 mornings a week and so I am just generally exhausted? Maybe it's because there are times in our lives where we just don't have much interesting to say. I think this may be one of those times. I am open to topic suggestions.

I've been knitting...and I am almost done with a sweater I've been working on..it'll be perfect for next fall. I am also just starting another one that I plan to take on vacation with me. I haven't taken any pictures of that yet...however..

....I decided to unload the pictures from my camera. I had 7 pictures...all of Izzie.

She was on the couch the other morning...all curled up with her blanket and pillow...

Nope..she's not spoiled at all..not one little bit :)

Izzie's had a busy week..she had a meeting with all her friends to discuss that we'll be moving soon. She's making sure everyone has a moving partner so they don't get lost....

She decided the meeting was stressful..so a nap was in order.

You have to know that if it wasn't for Izzie...I'd probably never post. It's a good thing she's cute.

Tomlin Epps?

I am a HUGE House fan...and am so glad they've had a marathon on all day today...and I'll be getting back to it soon..but I've been watching the Super Bowl and cannot get over how much Mike Tomlin looks like Omar Epps. I came home and asked Ms. Google for a picture of Mike Tomlin..and apparently I am not the only one who thinks this! I found this side by side on a Newsweek website...

Random Friday

I wanted to start having Random Friday...where I could just write whatever I wanted and it didn't really have to have any flow or anything..you know, not pressure, right? Well yesterday I thought I'd have a really easy day and have time to post..well..the best laid plans right. I worked until 11:30 PM and was SO not happy! I will not go into it, I've already had a good vent to Sarah and seeing as how she understands the players and I already have her sympathy, there's really no need. After all of that, I didn't have time to post. So the first installment of Random Friday is being logged on Saturday afternoon...ok..evening..is 5:00 evening? I'm not really sure.

Knowing people are actually reading this has made me feel like I have to post more often. I also don't use my camera phone much either...so here we go...and I took these all while fully stopped at traffic lights.

On the way to the gym Friday morning I see this. Now my apologies if anyone has one of these...

Now will someone tell me...is this a truck? or a car? and why would you have one of these?? I mean, the one plus is its a Subaru..which I want one of them for my next car...but the cartruck? or truckcar... caruk? I just don't get it.

I took this as a sign that moving back to Illinois is the right thing to do. Oh..and the Bears will win the Superbowl...by 7 :)

And lastly...I love cupcakes. I just can't help it. I haven't had one since I went to see Jill in November..so I talked to Google and she helped me find some. (here now begins camera pictures)

Dude..what's that smell??

For dinner tonight, we had planned to have salad. For the past 2 weeks, in keeping with my weight loss/exercise/why am I spending all this money for a trainer 4 times a week at 7:30 a.m. when I should be sleeping... I've been planning for a week at a time so that I don't eat too much. Well anyway, I wanted to have eggs to go in the salad, so I put 2 on to boil. HOLY HELL...can I just say I don't know what happened, but one of them broke in the water and our apartment stinks! We ended up going out for dinner..but it didn't get any better even with all the exhaust fans on...even though I sprayed Oust. Now we're sitting with the front window open and I am getting cold. Izzie is sitting next to me and I can only imagine what shes thinking "..good lord mama...what stinks???". That's what I'd be thinking. Also..I'd be wondering "why does mama have the window open?"

Now I have to be honest with all of you (no..I did not create the smell..how dare you think that!) ...I have to admit that this Izzie picture is not from today. I wrapped her up in a blanket because she looked cold and I am a good doggie mama. I then tried to take her picture and she wouldn't look at me. So I said "Izzie want a treat?" Well that was it..she was up..tail wagging and there was no way she was sitting for a picture. And yes..she got a treat :) So I apologize for the recycled picture.

I've been thinking a lot about Izz lately and wondering what goes on in her mind. Sometimes during the day she sits by my desk and stares at me...I think she's thinking something like "treat, treat, treat, treat, treat" or "potty, potty, potty, potty, potty". I doubt she's saying "sing, sing, sing" but sometimes I do anyway :) I also sometimes break out in a dance..but I won't go there... Sometimes I wish she could just tell me what she's thinking...because I think dogs are WAY smarter than people think. And by people, I mean non-dog owners.

That's it..so now I am sitting here, working, wondering when this smell is going to go away...actaully..I think its not as bad...

Under Pressure

So..since I have heard that some people actually DO look at my blog, I feel all of this pressure to update it. (sheesh..there I go with the SO...again. I wonder if there is a support group). Today, I don't know if anyone noticed, but today is 100 days until we move. That's kinda scary. I haven't done anything to begin preparing, except plan a vacation...and I don't think that officially counts. And Saturday will be the first day of February! The shortest month of the year! I need a moving planner!

Also, I realize that not everyone is thrilled with our new President, but I am lucky to have friends who have opinions and that is good..its what our country is all about. Anyway, what I am excited about is that our new President has totally revamped the White House website...and even is having weekly addresses. Here's the one from this week.

Cadillac One

These past days have been so exciting..with the Inauguration of our new President and Vice President (I really like both of them...which is a real change from before Monday...). And today, we had the first day with our new Secretary of State. I feel like, for the first time in a long time, we're in really capable hands. I feel patriotic.

I've also received my first "email" from the President. I think as a country we'll be much more informed and involved.

Oh..not much...you?

So there really isn't anything going on. (Why do I constantly start thoughts with "so"? I have no clue.)

Anyway, so (I must really work on that!) its been really nice and warm here in South Texas and we're looking at 70's for the whole week. I took some really nice pictures of the sunset the other day and I thought that maybe someone would enjoy them. So here they are.



I love when the sky is all pink..I wonder why it does that? (yes..I'm sure I could google it..but it would take all the mystery out of wondering...just like the 2 night I spent wondering what the name of the maintenance guy on the show "One Day at a Time" was! Schneider...I know NOW...)

Paul and I have a long weekend given that Monday is Martin Luther King day...and so now we just have another day to find something to do. Paul will likely play video games and I will knit on my sweater and go to the gym. We did go out yesterday to Dave and Busters - which really is just a variation on the video game theme for Paul...but doesn't he look happy?

While we were there I also won 500 tickets (the million dollars) on Deal or No Deal. I had 1 case and my case..and 82 tickets or 500...Paul said I should take the 285 offered...but I just couldn't...and my case had 500!!! I got applause!! It was a very proud moment for me.

Also, in other news, we've finally booked our vacation!

Birthday

Tonight we took Paul's grandma out for her birthday. We love going to fondue but only really do it for special occasions.
We all had a really good time...and plenty of food..and chocolate...which required that I put on my stretchy pants when we got home.

Monster Trucks

Let me first say...HOLY CRAP THESE THINGS ARE LOUD!!! Probably the loudest thing I have ever heard. Thankfully we had our earplugs!

I could not believe how many people came out to see this! We heard on the way in that they were apparently sold out. Also apparently there are some of these people/trucks that people really follow...because there were people who clearly knew all about this stuff...I felt so uneducated.

Anyway...there were a few trucks I particularly liked..they had these 2 what were "mutt" themed..with ears and tails...

..one flipped over as well.


And Paul bought me some cotton candy...a bag of nothing but sugar...yum...

Hot and Cold

As much as I loved visiting Illinois, I loved seeing this when we got home.

Izzie was such a good traveler, as usual...and even sat in her bag at times when it wasn't really necessary...like the security line at O'Hare. I am always amazed at how many friends she makes while waiting in line or waiting to board a plane. Here she is waiting at baggage claim!


The night before we left, my mom and dad took us to dinner for our Anniversary and I had to take this one of my dad and Paul in their matching hats!

I realize that this was all a bit hodge podge...but I am ok with that. Its all part of my New Year's resolutions!!!
